Top 5 Porn Books for Women

Horny and alone, I decided to search for “porn books for women.” What came up was neither surprising nor thrilling. Instead, the main outcome was satirical. Where my search became less about finding naughty content, and more so about silly quips on female sexuality.

This left me thinking. Why is it that porn books written for women seem to have a need to be comical to be palatable? Why can’t porn books for women be the steamy, naughty, titillating, and smart porn books that many of us crave?

A Brief History of Porn Books for Women

There’s no debating that women have experienced oppression throughout history. When it comes to our sexuality, this is especially true, as women have often been modeled as virginal, chaste, and angelic.

Instead of the fluid, curious, horny women we are.

To this point, lesbian romance novels have been entirely overshadowed by heterosexual, heteronormative prose, and porn books for women that speak to the true romantic desires of heterosexual and lesbian women have often been banned.

In addition, porn itself has been consistently marketed toward men, leaving little content that caters to women. And an even smaller piece of that pie caters to lesbian romance.

Romance – Don’t Make Me Laugh

Laughter has a reputation as being an “icebreaker”. A way to lighten a heavy topic. Due to the taboo surrounding female sexuality, it’s possible that porn books for women have used humour to bridge society’s ability to stomache female sexual content.

Given that it’s 2022, I’d like to move on from the idea that porn literature has to be served with a side of giggles, and my feeling is that you do, too.

My Top 5 Porn Books for Women

So here it is. My top 5 porn books for women, and best lesbian romance novels. Get your vibrators out, ladies!

1. The Outlander by Diana Gabaldon

Set in Scotland, WWII Nurse, Claire, is pulled through time and torn between two lovers in this steamy, 8 part romance novel. No matter the time period, Claire is written as a smart and capable woman who keeps her lovers on their toes.

Once you get started on the books, see the plot come to life on Netflix Canada.

2. The Story of O by Pauline Réage

The Story of O takes us into the life of a fashion photographer turned submissive. “O” finds herself being trained, like a BDSM courtesan, by an elite underground group. Originally published in France anonymously, this book was banned from publication.

This book is the ultimate tale of submission, objectification, kink and erotica. I hope you have a “safe word”.

3. Written On the Body by Jeanette Winterson

This passionate love story is written so the gender of the narrator is never revealed. Obsessed with a married woman, our protagonist experiences both passion and pain throughout their numerous love affairs.

This book purposefully ignores gender and, instead, focuses on the human condition and love as an entity in and of itself. After all, don’t the highs and lows that come with love transcend male and female?

4. Tipping the Velvet by Sarah Waters

A historical novel set in the 1890s, Tipping the Velvet is a coming of age story where a young woman finds herself enthralled with a female actor, who plays a male role, and follows her to London. Throughout the book, themes of class, lesbianism, gender and society were pervasive. This erotic read was named best book in 1998.

5. The Roommate by Rosie Danan

A woman moves across the country with a crush and, instead, ends up becoming roommates with a sexy stranger. The two have little in common except the idea that women are deserving of better sex.

This book has been described as a “feminist porn” because it’s a sex positive novel about a woman owning her desire and tearing down the pre-conceived notions of societies prescribed relationship roles.

Porn Books and Lesbian Romance of a Higher Ilk.

As you’ve seen, porn books for women don’t have to stoop to comedy in order to make their audience comfortable enough to enjoy sexual fantasy.

Porn books can be hot and still have won literary prizes. They can cause the blood to boil and our cheeks to flush. Many of the authors, despite their fear and censorship, published these books because women deserve better than to be the butt of society’s jokes.

Porn Books for Women Don’t Have to be Funny to be Sexy

Women’s fantasies can encompass many things. Humour has its place, but it no longer needs to be used to make female sexuality more acceptable.

Personally, when I’m wrapped up in a romance novel , I don’t want to be screaming with laughter – I want to be screaming with ecstasy. If you agree with me, stock up on batteries and plan a night in with a good book and BOB (battery operated boyfriend). You can thank me later.
